Leadership

ThyssenKrupp Waupaca’s facilities have implemented Environmental Management Systems (EMS), which are designed to guide our company through tightening environmental regulations and environmental improvements. Our EMS is based on the internationally recognized ISO 14001 standard. The cornerstone of our EMS is the statement of principles found in our Environmental Policy below. The cornerstone of our EMS is the statement of principles found in our EHS Policy.

Baghouse Air Pollution Control SystemOur philosophy is to use state of the art pollution control equipment to eliminate potential air pollution, and to seek new ways to continually reduce our air emissions. The air pollution control systems we install at our facilities are considered as “best available” or BACT by the EPA and state agencies. Pictured to the right is a rendering of the new bag house air pollution control system that is being installed on the iron melting cupola at Plant 1. Similar systems are already in operation at Plant 2, Plant 5 and Plant 6.

Heat Recovery EquipmentOur EHS Policy also demands the wise use of resources including energy. This photo shows heat recovery equipment recently installed at Plant 2. Waste heat from the cupola melting operation is captured and used for space heating during the winter. This project will save millions of cubic feet of natural gas each heating season, conserving our resources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Restored Gravel PitThyssenKrupp Waupaca’s goal is to reuse our sands and slag in environmentally appropriate manners to the fullest extent possible. This will save landfill space and conserve other mineral resources that would need to be mined if foundry sands and slag were not used. Over the past five years we have been successful in developing alternate reuse markets for our sands and slag. The before and after photos show a sand and gravel pit in Waupaca County that was successfully reclaimed using 80,000 tons of foundry sand.Gravel Pit Needing Restoration
